Do's & Don'ts
Protect your investment. These are the habits that define whether your ink heals legendary or falls flat.
Keep the area clean with TattMagic Cleansing Spray 2-3 times a day, especially in the first week.
Apply Recovery Gel in a thin, even layer always on clean, dry skin after cleansing.
Let peeling happen naturally. Your body is doing its job.
Wear loose, breathable clothing over the healing tattoo to avoid friction.
Stay hydrated internal hydration supports skin regeneration.
Use SPF 50 every time the healed tattoo will be exposed to sunlight, even on cloudy days.
Sleep on clean sheets and change pillowcases frequently during the healing window.
Follow your tattoo artist's specific aftercare guidance alongside this system.
Contact your artist or a dermatologist if you notice unusual swelling or discharge beyond Day 5.
Pick, scratch, or peel the tattoo ever. This directly damages ink pigment and creates scarring.
Submerge the tattoo in a bath, pool, hot tub, or ocean until fully healed (minimum 4 weeks)
Apply Vaseline, petroleum jelly, coconut oil, or unverified balms - they suffocate healing skin.
Expose the fresh tattoo to direct sunlight during the first 4-6 weeks.
Use exfoliating products, acids, or retinols on or near the healing area.
Over-apply Recovery Gel a thick, goopy layer blocks airflow and prolongs healing.
Shave over the area until peeling is complete and fresh skin has settled.
Apply SPF to a fresh, unhealed tattoo only use on fully healed skin (4-6 weeks+).
Go to a sauna, steam room, or do intense cardio with the tattoo exposed in the first two weeks.
Normal vs. Seek Help
Not everything that happens during healing is a problem. Here's how to tell the difference.
- Redness and mild swelling in the first 3 days
- Itching and flaking during Days 7–14
- A milky or slightly cloudy film over the ink
- Some colour appearing lighter during peeling (it comes back)
- Slight raised texture that fades over weeks
- Warmth around the area in the first 48 hours
- Excessive dryness or tightness (increase Recovery Gel frequency)
- Slight oozing in the first 24–48 hours (clean and re-apply gel)
- Temporary redness after Cleansing Spray contact (normal for sensitive skin)
- Uneven healing between areas of the same tattoo
- Minor bruising from heavy needle work in sensitive areas
- Redness spreading significantly beyond the tattoo border after Day 3
- Fever, chills, or flu-like symptoms alongside tattoo symptoms
- Yellow or green discharge (signs of bacterial infection)
- Hot, hard, or extremely swollen skin beyond 72 hours
- Pus-filled bumps or blisters forming on the tattoo
- Increasing (not decreasing) pain after Day 3
- Hives or rash spreading away from the tattoo
- Difficulty breathing or throat tightness (seek emergency care immediately)
- Persistent raised welts or bumps over healed ink
- Extreme itching unrelated to normal healing phases
- If you experience a reaction to TattMagic - stop use and consult a healthcare professional
